What has happened to the land in a particular area?
Kaohsiung city is prosperous and populous. According to the research, the average carbon emissions in Kaohsiung has already been the top of the world including the exhaust released from scooters, cars, and transportation, which deeply influences the quality of Kaohsiung residents’ life. It has been a vital issue worthy of discussing. Among these, air pollution is always a serious problem in Kaohsiung city. The air quality is usually evaluated by the concentration of PM10 which means airborne particulates, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3.
First, SO2 and NO2 are the most obvious damaging gas in such an industrialized city like Kaohsiung. The cause of the high concentration of SO2 and NO2 is the development of heavy industry. Take Xiao-gang district in Kaohsiung for example. The average statistics of SO2 and NO2 in Xiao-gang district are much higher than other districts in Kaohsiung apparently due to the release from the factories. Not only does the pollution have awful influence on the living quality but also residents’ health. Aiming at this severe topic, the government of Kaohsiung city definitely provides some solutions including setting up the air quality monitoring stations in order to realize everyday air quality. The indications are also made more easily for people to understand. Moreover, the government urges residents to inform against the factories which violate the rules. This kind of cooperation between civics and government can help the air pollution problems and enhance their own living environment simultaneously.
Secondly, the problem of CO or CO2 is mainly caused by the traffic. The high population and busy traffic is certainly the prior reason of the high release of CO and CO2. As a result, improving the traffic problems becomes the head mission. Advocate residents to go to work and schools on foot or by bikes, restrict the release by factories, and reduce the using of electricity. Everyone’s efforts will reflect on the improvement of Kaohsiung.
Thirdly, Dioxin. What’s Dioxin? Dioxin is also called the century poison which is carcinogenic, hard to be resolved, and accumulated in our body. Many people blame this on the inappropriate usage of incinerators. You cannot deny one of the reasons of the discharge of dioxin is incinerators. That’s why the government inspects the incinerators or other related factories so as to control the release of it. However, the cause of dioxin is really so simple? Maybe not. There’re some other reasons behind it.
To be honest, combustion behaviors by people, created by nature, and the abuse of antiseptics on woods are also result in producing dioxin. It’s more complex than what we think.
Last but not least, the sandstorm is another reason having impacts on air pollution in Kaohsiung. Every winter, the cold air mass from China will bring huge amount of sand and dust to Taiwan especially south Taiwan because of the wind direction. This will make the air become dirty, muddy, and turbid which will jeopardize people’s health especially their respiratory system. Many residents in Kaohsiung will go to the doctors due to the serious sandstorm. People shouldn’t go out as much as possible when the sandstorm is coming and wear masks when you go outside.

Perhaps, the price behind the prosperity in Kaohsiung is air pollution. That’s why people should stand together even with the government and find the best solutions to it. People in Kaohsiung definitely have no way to eradicate air pollution, but at least they can reduce, obstruct, and prevent it from becoming worse and worse. It’s not personal or regional. It’s a significant issue for every single person in Taiwan even in the world. Everyone should make efforts to it because we deserve better life.

Types of restaurants or dining out
Nowadays, eating is more and more crucial to people. No matter you eat healthy or not. Dining is taking a serious part of our life. Especially, people gradually get used to dining out. Choosing restaurants becomes a significant issue for all of us. So have you experienced eating out? Off course. When to come to choosing a restaurant, there’re so much concepts and idea coming up with my mind. Due to several kinds of restaurants for you to option, realizing them is your first step.
In Taiwan, you definitely can’t ignore the traditional ones- Chinese or Taiwanese food restaurant. And it can be classified into two types- formal one and stir-fried shops. Both of them have their own advantages and shortcomings. In formal traditional food restaurant such as ones in the department store or Taipei 101, all you can experience is the sanitarian dining environment, thoughtful service, and professional cooking dishes. And these will reflect on the prices. However, in the stir-fried shops, the price is more cost-effective without a clean surrounding or special service, perhaps. But if all you like is eating rice or some hot soup, Chinese and Taiwanese food restaurants or stir-fried shops will be your first choice.
Another kind of restaurants which are renewed I think is fast food like McDonald’s, subway, or some burgers shops. Order what you want, choose a suitable seat, and enjoy your time. For many students or office workers, fast food restaurants maybe are the smartest choice during their break. First, the price is cheaper that the formal restaurants. Secondly, you don’t need to bear any awkward feeling or unfriendly sight from other people if you go to restaurants alone. Ultimately, although fast food isn’t healthy, it’s an excellent select for those who wants to enjoy personal time thinking about their work or something else.
How can we neglect so-called informal restaurants? For instance, vendors or some restaurants only provide consumers with desserts or afternoon tea. Vendors, in my opinions, that’s what we should be proud of as a Taiwanese. Many vendors or small shops in the corner of city are certainly stunning. For those whose quantity of food is little or those who want to eat something as a snack before dinner, it must meet their expectations. Moreover, those restaurants which only serve desserts or afternoon tea are necessary for some people, especially, girls who love to gossip with their friends.

To sum up, there are so many types of restaurants for us to choose. Maybe you should ask yourself which is suitable for you and which is what you need. After knowing these options, I believe you must realize more about Taiwanese dining environment. Dining issue is more and more important and vital for us to discuss about. Hope you enjoy you dining time!

My Favorite Sights
People ask me where is your favorite places? I say the place I dream to visit.
I have a dream. A dream that I’m in Venice. What’s your first thought when it comes to Venice? Historical architecture, enchanting local coloring, or abundant cultural background? The first thought emerging in my mind is the floating city. Everyone names Venice the city of water. When I was a child, I had so much imagination. The word “floating” is like a romantic spell haunting me in my life. I can’t figure out why, but it just does. Even today sometimes, I still live in my illusion. Linger in this labyrinthian city, lock my name with my lover on the bridge, or immerse myself in the love rumor. A rumor? People said that if a couple kiss each other when their boat is passing under the lock bridge, their love will last forever. Do you believe that? I think it must be the most gorgeous lie in the world.
Just like the painting, Venice is an ancient city filled with many impressive architecture and rich local coloring. It can trace back to 1st century. Venice was originally a city people fled to because of wars, and later expanded in the 9th century. That’s so attractive and fascinating. The city is like a retro book. When you take the first step, you are reading and enjoying it. Reveal this world with your sensitive heart, and you’ll fall in love. Also, geographically, Venice is composed by 118 islands linked by 177 rivers and 401 bridges. Some people also call it city of bridges. So visiting Venice is an exploration, you wouldn’t know what will happen next in this city. That’s why I love it so much.
Venice, Venice, my goddess. Its culture is especially abundant, unique, and diverse. In 14th century, teenagers in Venice started to wear skinny pants in order to declare which clubs they belongs to. They called “Compagnie della Calze” in Italian. And in 16th century, Venice is also the musical center of Europe. These gave Venice a mysterious and various cultural environment. Moreover, if you come up with the most interesting things in Venice, nothing can compare to them- they are masks. In Venice, you can see many shops selling masks. They are all delicate, exquisite, and elaborate. You can wear them in the parties, performances, and celebrations. You must be the fantastic spotlight.
People ask me where is your favorite sights? I say Venice, Venice, my goddess.
